Breast Augmentation/ Male Breast Reduction

Breast augmentation
Surgery aims to achieve fuller breast or to restore volume, which may have been lost after weight reduction or pregnancy, by using implants or sometimes fat.
Ideal candidate –
You may be conscious of the small size of your breasts or the loss of volume after pregnancy, weight loss, or aging. In all such scenarios and in the case of unequal breasts ( asymmetry), breast augmentation can be extremely effective in achieving the desired breast shot’s self-esteem, confidence, and sexual life.
Breast implants are a safe and effective way of achieving desired results.
Breast augmentation does not correct severely drooping breasts. If you want your breasts to look fuller and non-sagging, a breast lift may be required in conjunction with breast augmentation.
Procedure –
All patients are medical screened for fitness before surgery. The patient is asked to discontinue smoking and to avoid anticoagulants, such as aspirin, clopidogrel, herbal products, and Vit E, for at least 1 week before the surgery, with the doctor’s advice.
The procedure is done under general anesthesia. Incisions are made in less noticeable areas to minimize visible scarring. The most popular incision is under the breast, but in selected patients, the incision can be made around the nipple or through the armpit. You and your plastic surgeon will discuss which incision options are appropriate for your desired outcome. Incisions vary as per anatomy and patient – surgeon preference.
Breast size and shape are important, so be honest and open about your expectations when talking with your surgeon. Implant type and size would depend not only on your desired increase in size but more importantly on your breast anatomy, skin elasticity, and body type.
Options for breast implants
Saline breast implants are filled with sterile saltwater. They can be filled with different amounts of saline that can affect the shape, firmness, and feel of the breast.
Silicone breast implants are filled with an elastic gel. The gel feels, moves and appears much like the natural breast tissue. Silicone gel implants are becoming increasingly more popular than saline implants.
Currently, saline breast implants are U.S. FDA APPROVED for augmentation in women of 18 years of age and older. , And silicone breast implants are US FDA APPROVED for augmentation in women of 22 years of age and older.
Saline or silicone implants can be advised at a younger age for reconstruction purposes.
The type of implant, degree of enlargement desired, body type and surgeon’s recommendations affects the method of insertion and the position of implants.
Layered sutures are done on the incisions made in the breast tissue and the suture, skin adhesive, or surgical tape are used to close the skin. Over time, the incision will fade, and post-surgical swelling resolves. Results noticed immediately after surgery.
Recovery-
Approximately it is 2-3 weeks. The patient is advised to wear breast support during the post-operative period.
There might be some wound healing and implant problems, but overall risks of the procedure are minimal in healthy individual’s age, volume, and size.
Scientific studies have proven that breast augmentation not only enhances the breasts but also boosts your confidence.
