HAIR LOSS THERAPY

Platelet-Rich Plasma for Hair Loss (PRP)
Platelet-rich plasma (PRP) has been shown to have numerous growth factors that aid in restoring hair loss. PRP therapy involves collecting the candidate’s blood and spinning it down into a concentrate of plasma that has a high platelet concentration. This is then injected back into the candidate’s scalp. Studies have reported enhanced growth after the hair transplant surgery and increased hair counts when used in conjunction with PRP therapy.
About the Procedure
Platelet-rich plasma (PRP) contains several cytokines and growth factors. These include interleukin-1, platelet-derived growth factor, transforming growth factor, vascular endothelial growth factor, insulin-like growth factor, and epidermal growth factor. PRP therapy involves injecting concentrated autologous platelets into the scalp. Some studies have suggested that PRP can accelerate growth after hair transplant surgery. Limited data is present for PRP’s direct stimulation of hair growth. Before injection of PRP into the scalp, the blood will need to be collected from the patient. Blood will be drawn and collected from the arm, placed in a centrifuge, and the components of the blood will be separated. Once the platelet-rich plasma is isolated, the serum can then be injected into parts of the scalp that are experiencing hair thinning.
Platelet-rich plasma seeks to reverse the early stages of hair loss created by thinning hair, bald spots, and receding hairlines.
